Archie, the Top Dog

Some stories should start with "once upon a time". Even though it isn't a fairy tale, Archie's story is like that. His impact on those around him was...well...pretty magical.
In 2004, Archie was picked up wandering the streets of Garden City, Idaho. His story could have ended there, but there was a brand new program at the Idaho State Penitentiary which paired dogs with prisoners who would train them and get them ready to be good companions. It was in this program that Archie achieved his Canine Good Citizen Medal. Archie was in the first graduating class of the program which is still operating today.

In March of 2005 his original owner became ill and had to return him to the IHS program. That's when he found his forever home with my brother. Scott had been looking for a dog in the program for a few months. One day he got a call, "I've found the perfect dog for you." As it turned out, Archie really was perfect. Everyone in the family came to love him.

After that his life mostly consisted of long walks, warm beds, and lots of treats. Due to his job, Scott moved to Virginia and he and Archie continued their long walks. It was during this time that Archie's favorite place to walk led Scott to an introduction with another dog owner, who introduced Scott to her best friend. They have been married for a while now.

So you see, it is a kind of "fairy tale". Though it might have seemed impossible when Archie was wandering homeless, he ended up living an honorable and happy life, and like all good creatures, he brought "happily ever after" with him.

When Charissa was thinking about what she would call her new coffee business, she was very impressed with the service dogs who work to find missing children. However, the one dog that became the Top Dog for Top Dog Coffee, was Archie. His life embodied everything that Top Dog Roastery wanted to promote: service, love and life. The "A" on the tag of our Top Dog stands for Archie.
